Abstract


A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of arbitrarily moving wireless mobile nodes that are self-configurable, self-organized, and infrastructure-less. They can function even in rapidly changing topologies. Due to this highly dynamic environment, routing in MANETs is a difficult, yet very important task. Over the last decade, various routing protocols have been proposed for mobile ad-hoc networks and some of the most important among them are DSDV, AODV, DSR, and OLSR. This research journal provides an overview of the routing protocols and their comparative analysis based on similar environmental conditions. Researchers evaluated their performance based on Packet Delivery Ratio, Throughput and Average End-to-end Delay. Simulation results show that DSDV and OLSR perform best in networks where nodes are less mobile and densely populated. AODV is suitable for networks with a larger number of nodes. DSR performs well in networks with low mobility and lower traffic density.
